Jonathan DePeri, pianist and Founder and Artistic Director of Gotham Arts, will be joined by friends for an undoubtedly fantastic afternoon of great chamber music.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

JONATHAN DePERI, piano, is the Honorary Assistant Organist at St. John’s in the Village and had studied piano at the Manhattan School of Music before transferring to Columbia University. In 2013, he formed the Gotham Arts Salon, which creates artistic and musical gatherings that blur the line between private and public. https://www.facebook.com/GothamArts/


Ben Hildner, violoncello is an artist whose versatile career has spanned continents. Following three seasons in the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, he has devoted himself to his chamber music pursuits. In 2010, he founded the chamber ensemble "Les Alchimistes Berlin", which includes members of the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. The ensemble regularly performs at many of Berlin's most notable chamber music locations, such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Piano Salon Christophori, Clärchens Ballhaus, and Maison de France. He was also the founder and music director of Bachwoche Berlin, at which the ensemble was in residence. Ben has also performed with the Zürich Opera Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Basel, and Sudwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz. He has served as principal cellist of Verbier, Schleswig-Holstein, and Spoleto Festival Orchestras. Ben holds a Bachelor of Music in Violoncello Performance from the University of Southern California and a Konzertdiplom from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. His teachers include Eleonore Schoenfeld, Raphael Wallfisch, and Claudius Herrmann, with additional studies in chamber music with the Artemis Quartet. Ben plays an 1816 Martin Stoss cello, formerly played by renowned cellist Janos Starker.

Jeffery King, violin studied at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Midori Goto. Additionally, he studied chamber music with Karen Dreyfus Lyric Piano Quartet, Amerigo Trio and Lawrence Dutton Emerson String Quartet. He has won many accolades and awards including grand prizes in the 1999 Collin County Young Artist Competition, Texas and the 2003 US Music Teacher's National Association Competition. He has soloed with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra and the Plano Symphony Orchestra. He is an alumnus of the Heifetz International Music Institute, the Mimir Chamber Music Festival, the Omaha Chamber Music Society, and Alfred University’s MostArts Festival. Jeffery was a violinist with the Omaha Symphony during the 2011-2021 seasons and was a founding member of the Rangbrook Ensemble. He has performed with various artists including Joshua Bell, Michael Feinstein, Andre Watts, LeAnne Rimes, and also under the baton of Alastair Willis, Marcelo Lehninger, and the late maestro, Kurt Masur. Jeffery currently performs with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, with whom he made his Carnegie Hall debut in fall 2021. He plays on an 1893 Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin violin. In his downtime, Jeffery enjoys table tennis, golf, foosball, and all the cultural treasures found in New York City.

Eric Simpson, violin originally hails from Haverford, Pennsylvania, where he began playing the violin at age four. Studying with Lee Snyder at the Settlement Music School, he won numerous concerto competitions and made solo appearances with area orchestras. For four summers he studied with David and Linda Cerone of the Cleveland Institute of Music, and while an undergraduate at Yale College, where he majored in Classics, Eric was in the studio of Syoko Aki at the Yale School of Music. In 2021, he was a finalist in WQXR's "Moonlighters Competition," a competition for accomplished amateur musicians in the New York area. For five years, Eric was an editor at The New Criterion, where he began writing music criticism. Since then, he has published more than 350 reviews and essays in The New CriterionThe Wall Street JournalThe Hopkins Review, and The New York Classical Review, where he remains a regular contributor. He is now the Chief Development Officer at the Paideia Institute, a nonprofit working to promote the study of Latin and ancient Greek.

Eran Sykesviola, earned musical degrees from Cleveland Institute of Music and New England Conservatory, and a doctorate of nursing practice from Columbia University School of Nursing. She has had the pleasure of working with artists including Dave Stewart, Maxim Vengerov, Peter Wiley, and Glen Ballard, and enjoys spending her free time working on boats and hiking with her rescue mutt Tasha.
