Conference Objectives:

Global Challenges!

The upcoming conference in the great city of Taipei-Taiwan aims at thoroughly examining the major issues facing the global economy and would like to find out suitable solutions to address them all.

The global economy faces many challenges! The first and foremost being sluggish economic growth owing to slowdown in many countries, more particularly, in USA and European Union. Although many reasons are cited for this, the obvious root-cause being low oil-prices for well over three years.

Giant economies and economic blocks such as European Union should reverse the scenario and put their economies back on rails. Chinese economy and reduction in commodity prices also send mixed signals about the future of global economy. Although some of the European nations such as France, Germany and a host of other nations show signs of recovery and moderate growth, the good old days are yet to be seen. Emerging economies such as Brazil, South Africa, India, Thailand and a few other economies also have registered signs of growth prospects, of course, with mixed signals.

Food Security!

Food security is yet another challenge the world has to focus, says researchers. A statistical report indicates that by 2050, the world must feed 9 billion people. So, the demand for food will be 60% greater than it is today. Achieving food security, ending poverty/hunger and offering nutrition-rich food to the masses are very important in order to ensure a disease-free world.

Jobs!

The employment and job market scenario is not encouraging at all. The International Labour Organization estimates that more than 61 million jobs have been lost since the start of the global economic crisis in 2008, leaving more than 200 million people unemployed, globally. (Source: International Labour Organization estimates). The report further states that nearly 500 million new jobs will need to be created by 2020 to provide opportunities to those currently unemployed and to the young people who are projected to join the workforce over the next few years.

In addition to the above, gender inequality, unaffordable healthcare costs, environmental degradation resulting in pollution and depletion of natural resources are the other primary areas where the world leaders have to focus in order to safeguard both the current and future generation.

Coordinated Efforts – The Need of the Hour!

The problems and challenges are numerous. However, the future appears to be excellent as every nation works on nullifying the factors that contribute to slowdowns and recessions.

Needless to mention that a well-coordinated efforts among nations would certainly go a long way in ensuring rapid economic growth in the long run. More specifically, nations should work on job creation, real GDP growth, low inflation, satisfactory current account balances, export of goods and services, higher per capita income etc. Also, natural resources have to be preserved without fail. Gender inequality should be addressed in a phased manner.

On the other hand, policy makers should also ensure the following: reducing national debt to prudent levels, fixing the problems of income inequality, reducing carbon emissions etc.,

Against this background, the upcoming academic research conference in Taipei, Taiwan will make an attempt to achieve the following objectives:

a) identify the major challenges being faced by the global economy, today;

b) examine the factors which contribute to sluggish growth and recession;

c) provide an ideal platform for researchers, economists, bankers and practitioners to share their research and practical experiences on all the major issues highlighted as above in global economy; and

d) offer suitable solutions to ensure an orderly growth of the global economy and bring prosperity and sustainable economic development to the World, in the long-run.
