La Culture Oui, But Why ?

After the day conference "Le Francais Oui, But Why" on French language in 2020, the Cultural Center of the Lycée Français de New York continues to explore the world of French Culture. We organize two conferences on Saturday, October 28, 2020 from 10.30am to 4pm. The first roundtable will focus on culture in the Digital Age. Then we will look at the importance of culture for students in higher education.

On this special day, writers, activists, educators and intellectuals will contribute their thoughts and ideas and try to answer the question : La Culture Oui, But Why?

French education requires the acquisition of "culture générale", imperfectly translated by the notion of "general knowledge". What does this notion overlaps, and is there an equivalent in the Anglo-Saxon curriculum? Faced with the evolution of acquiring knowledge through digital means, is this idea of "culture générale" altogether undermined?

This conference is free and open to all those interested in French culture, new technologies, digital culture and the French educational system. The roundtables will be held in French and in English and earphones will be provided for translation.

The second French-Speaking Cultures Fair in New York will take place in the cafeteria of the Lycée. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet and get information from our exhibitors who are all participating to spread the French language and defend French-speaking cultures. The French-speaking cultures Fair will take place from 10.30am to 3pm with no interruption. It is free and open to all. If you come with family, your children can attend workshops in French organized by various exhibitors from 1.30pm to 3pm.
